The Life of Alejandro Ramos

October 31, 1991 - August 20, 2023

The soul of Alejandro “Alex” Ramos was lifted to heaven on Sunday, August 20, 2023, fulfilling one of his many life passions of running. Alex was an enormous caretaker of people in his life, and his absence in this earthly realm leaves profound mourning, remembrance, and celebration for a person who saw the world through a lens of love, humanity, forgiveness, and creativity.

Alex was born in Houston, Texas, on Halloween, October 31, 1991, the year that is arguably known as the greatest year for music. Fittingly, Alex had an exquisite taste in music and was known among all in his life for curating playlists of songs that moved the souls of the people he cared for most. Alex often used songs to talk to people and deliver messages of love and inspiration.

To no one’s surprise, Alex grew up to be a Renaissance man, a human who embraced all knowledge and developed himself as fully as possible. Books about design, photography, hand craftsmanship, and mind expansion dominated the corners of his home. He put this knowledge to work in his life and his career. He was a gifted photographer and artist who captured majestic views of the world. As a professional, he created visual identities and graphic expressions for some of the largest companies and philanthropies in the country.

Alex had a stylish taste in clothes, and his outfits represented his inner charisma, calming voice, witty humor, and cool demeanor. He loved the touch of old leather, the look of a vintage watch, the dust on an old record. He aspired to start a graphic design and run-apparel company, which was to be named Defender.

Alex’s foundation as a human being was laid on Tavenor Lane in a historic part of southeast Houston just south of William P. Hobby Airport. There, he was raised by a loving mother, father, two older brothers, and two older sisters. This family was everything to Alex, and he was fiercely dedicated to loving and being there for them in times of need. He was passionate about finding ways to help them in their life pursuits, whether it was helping his older brother workout in his garage, writing long notes of love on their birthdays, playing with his niece or nephew, or being thoughtful with the small things, like changing air filters and sharing a coffee. He only wanted the best for his family, which was his primary concern daily.

In this colorful life, Alex found unimaginable love in his life partner, Nicole Valadez. On their first date, he wore blue-jeaned overalls. They had pizza and drank wine by a lake while on a blanket. They talked into the late night hours. That was the beginning of an exploding love that saw them travel to tucked away parts of Mexico, the deserts of west Texas, the beaches and forests of California and Portland, where they walked in rain and snow. They got lost, ate food, documented their travels through photos, and fell deeper in love with every mile traveled. Together, they explored each other’s tastes in music, went to concerts, and danced. On “wine and cheese” nights, as they called them, they put together puzzles, played board games, and watched funny movies and thought-provoking films that made them talk about the meaning of life. They laughed a lot with countless inside jokes. They spoke of their pasts and stared into each other’s eyes until they fell asleep holding hands. Magic found them in this life, and it will endure through time.

Alex held deep friendships with great men from childhood into adulthood, and they helped each other grow through long talks over coffee, basketball, skateboarding, and video games and their mutual love for cartoons and stand-up comedy. Alex was admired by his friends for his steady hand in chaotic situations, his poise, and his gentleness through times when they needed advice. He always gave them profound perspectives and new angles to see life through, and he nurtured his friendships into an unmistakable brotherhood that will be remembered by them forever. Alex’s four closest friends, which includes his cousin, will serve as pallbearers, along with Alex’s brothers, and they will carry him to his final resting place in the same spirit as he held them while together.

Alex is a 2009 graduate of Mount Carmel Academy, a Houston Independent School District Charter High School, where he ran cross-country and played basketball. In 2019, Alex received his bachelor’s degree in graphic design from the University of Houston.

Alex is survived by his parents, Rodrigo and Maria Ramos; his brother Carlos Ramos and his wife Miriam and their daughters Paulina, Olivia and Carina Gonzalez and her husband Oscar; his brother Fernando Ramos and his wife Veronica and their children Salome and Amado Ramos; and his sisters Lorena Ramos and Deborah Ramos.
