Alvaro A. Pérez, de 68 años, nació el 19 de febrero de 1956 en Allende, Nuevo León, México, hijo de Samuel Pérez Salazar y Mirthala Chávez Rojas. Falleció el 23 de diciembre de 2024 en Houston, Texas, dejando un legado profundo de amor, bondad y dedicación.

Alvaro fue un esposo, padre, hermano y abuelo muy querido, cuya huella en las vidas de quienes lo rodeaban fue inmensa. Su familia y amigos siempre lo recordarán como un hombre de integridad, compasión y amor sin límites.

Un atleta apasionado, Alvaro fue un corredor ávido que completó numerosas maratones, incluidas varias en Houston y una en la Ciudad de México. Entrenaba con su cercano amigo Joe Flores y el equipo en Memorial Park, logrando su mejor tiempo en maratón de 2:36 el 21 de enero de 1996 en Houston. En 2003, participó con orgullo en el MS 150 hacia Austin junto a su amigo Leonel Marroquín.

Alvaro comenzó su carrera en la industria restaurantera en sus primeros 20 años, trabajando como mesero y ayudante. En 1981, se unió a Mama Ninfa’s Mexican Restaurant, un camino que abarcó varias décadas. Su dedicación y liderazgo lo llevaron a abrir nuevas ubicaciones en Galveston, Alemania y Florida. Con el tiempo, se convirtió en asistente de gerente y luego en gerente, y finalmente adquirió la oportunidad de comprar el restaurante como franquicia. El 18 de julio de 2003, Alvaro se casó con Maria Salazar-Pérez, el amor de su vida. Maria recuerda con cariño a su esposo como un hombre trabajador, atento, responsable y amoroso, con una profunda pasión por la vida y su trabajo. Juntos compartieron una vida llena de alegría y amor, con una relación especial que también se extendió a sus nietos, quienes vivían cerca y eran una parte esencial de su vida.

Fuera de su vida profesional, a Alvaro le encantaba mantenerse activo. Le gustaba correr y andar en bicicleta por el vecindario o por los senderos cercanos, y a menudo encontraba paz en su patio, disfrutando las noches frescas junto al fuego. Su amor por los deportes lo convirtió en un fanático devoto del fútbol, béisbol y soccer. A passionate athlete, Alvaro was an avid runner who completed numerous marathons, including several in Houston and one in Mexico City. He trained with his close friend Joe Flores and the Memorial Park team, achieving a personal best marathon time of 2:36 on January 21, 1996, in Houston. In 2003, he proudly participated in the MS 150 ride to Austin alongside his friend Leonel Marroquin.

Alvaro began his career in the restaurant industry in his early 20s, working as a busboy and waiter. In 1981, he joined Mama Ninfa’s Mexican Restaurant, a journey that would span decades. His dedication and leadership led him to open new locations in Galveston, Germany, and Florida. Over time, he became an assistant manager and later a manager, eventually purchasing the restaurant as a franchise. Alvaro’s passion for his work, coupled with his genuine care for customers, defined his professional life.

On July 18, 2003, Alvaro married Maria Salazar-Perez, the love of his life. Maria fondly recalls him as a hardworking, thoughtful, and loving family man who brought passion and joy to everything he did. Their life together was one of shared love and laughter, with a special bond that extended to their grandchildren, who lived nearby and were an essential part of his life.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Alvaro cherished staying active. He loved running and biking in the neighborhood or on nearby trails, and he often found peace on his patio, enjoying the cool evenings by the firepit. His love of sports kept him a devoted fan of football, baseball, and soccer. Alvaro also deeply valued his roots and often visited his hometown in Mexico, where he enjoyed cooking steaks for his family and sharing special moments with them.

Alvaro’s son, Alvaro Arturo Perez Jr., lovingly describes him as not only a father but his best friend. Alvaro was a man of principles, who led by example and taught those around him the true meaning of integrity, hard work, and devotion. His brother, Gonzalo Alfredo Perez, reflects on the time they spent together, recalling their shared journey as young men who came to this country and the admiration he had for Alvaro’s drive, dedication, and commitment to family.

Alvaro was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Perez Salazar and Mirthala Chavez Rojas; his sister, Alejandra Alicia; his brother, Alberto Samuel; and his father-in-law, Arturo Salazar.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Maria del Carmen Salazar Perez; his son, Alvaro Arturo Perez Jr.; his daughters, Nancy Norma Perez and Bianca L. Gil; his mother-in-law, Maria Guadalupe Salazar; his brother, Gonzalo Alfredo Perez; his sisters, Maria Ludivina, Mirthala Ofelia, Lucila, and Sonia Teresa; his treasured grandchildren, Yesennia, Bernice, Reynaldo, Brenda, Alvaro III, Mauricio, and Adrian, and his great-grandchildren, Jayden, Jordan, Elisa, and Yuliana. 

Alvaro’s warmth, humor, and generous spirit will forever be remembered by those who were lucky enough to know him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and cherished memories. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his memory continue to inspire and comfort all who loved him.
