Armando Pablo Manero, born August 17, 1923, in Sagua La Grande, Cuba, died July 25, 2018, in Houston, Texas. He was surrounded by Maria Caridad Manero (nee Montes de Oca), his loving wife of 53 years, and his three children, Julie, Armando, and Joseph (Christina Foley Manero). Christina was as much a daughter as a daughter-in-law. He was a beloved member of his family, for whom he set an admirable example all his life. He lived long enough to see three grandchildren, Gabriela Carreño Manero (Eric Burgos), Joseph Foley Manero and Sebastian Foley Manero, as well as two great-grandchildren, Ethan Burgos and Luna Isabella Burgos. Armando was the youngest -- and last surviving -- of five siblings born to Jose Manuel Manero Caballero and Juana Peñaranda Manero. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin and friend, whose sense of humor and humility will be missed by all who had the good fortune to know him. He was kind and gentle, and provided a sounding board and sage counsel to friends and family alike. When confronted with the horrors of communism in his native Cuba, he struggled heroically to ensure his family could live in freedom, spending parts of several years in forced labor to earn that right. After a brief time in Madrid, Spain, he and his family arrived in the United States in May 1972, and quickly established themselves in their adopted hometown of Houston. One of his life-long dreams was realized when his beloved Houston Astros won the World Series in 2017. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the charity of the donor's choice in Armando's name. We wish to thank his caregivers at Seasons Hospice for their respectful and devoted care of our dad. The family plans to hold celebration of life events in Houston and Miami; arrangements are forthcoming for each.
