Carla Ellen Powers Cabrera

Mrs. Carla E. Powers Cabrera, 65, passed away on May 11, 2017, following a short illness. She was born Carla Ellen Pearson on August 1, 1951 in St. Charles, Missouri to George Elliott and Catherine Muriel (Trotier) Pearson. She spent most of her growing up years in California and attended Norco Valley High School in Norco, California before moving to Texas. Carla married Steven Brittain Powers on October 31, 1978 and was widowed in 2009 when Steven passed away. She later married Manuel G. Cabrera on February 9, 2014. They resided for the past several years in Pasadena, Texas. They enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and with their dogs. Carla worked several years as a life insurance agent and considered herself “retired” from American General (AGLA). Carla was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and husband, Steven. She is survived by her husband, Manuel Cabrera of Pasadena, Texas; sisters Paula Ward and April Smith of California, Cheryl Rosenberger of Washington, and Melanie Wyatt of Wyoming; brother-in-law Donald (Doris) Powers and sisters-in-law B. Liz Powers and Melissa Powers, all of Texas. She was a beloved aunt and great-aunt to several nephews and nieces. Carla was often the life of the party, both dishing out and taking a good joke on many occasions. She made family visits both fun and entertaining. Carla felt blessed by her many friends and extended family, all of whom will miss her dearly. At her request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be planned at a later date.
