Dora Jean Trevino, age 71, was called to the Lord on Friday, August 9, 2019. She is survived by herdaughter, Rachel Trevino Olivares; son-in-law, David R. Olivares; grandchildren, Joe Villarreal, Ashley Villarreal, Emily Olivares; great grandson, Joseph R. Villarreal. Siblings: Irene (Johnny) Dones, Becky (Louis) Ramirez, Mary Helen Rodriguez, Daniel (Tina) Rodriguez, David (Sylvia) Rodriguez; sister in law, Dolores Rodriguez; aunt, Connie C. Medina, cherished nieces and nephews; Emily, Chris, Arlene, Rudy, Rhonda, Julie, Maria, Valerie, Becky, Jessica, Kimberly, Paula, Ray Louis, Jennifer and Manuel III, beloved great nieces and nephews, many beautiful cousins, and family friends. She is preceded in death by her mother, Emily C. Rodriguez, father, Manuel Rodriguez Sr., brother Manuel Rodriguez, Jr., brother in law Rudy Rodriguez, and long-time partner of 20 years, Frank Duran.

Dora Jean was born at St. Joseph Hospital in Houston, Texas on November 27, 1947. She was a 1965 graduate of Charles H. Milby High School and later went on to work as a Lead Returns Processor for East Texas Distributing for over 25 years. She was a longtime member of the Houston Amistad bowling club, participating in league tournaments around Texas, having ranked top five in all-state Texas women’s tournament in 1984.

Dora truly lived her life to the fullest. To her family and friends, she was a force of nature, a witty fun-loving person who could make you laugh till your stomach hurt, and a true friend you could count on to be there during the best of times and in your darkest days. She loved music (any kind), loved to dance (in penny loafers in the 50s, go-go boots in the 60s, and disco attire in the 70s) and she loved to sing (even though she could not carry a tune).

Dora’s zest for life was stalled when she suffered a massive stroke in 1999. She was given a small window of survival, but true to form, she fought back to live another 20 years. Despite Dora’s handicap, she continued to travel with her family, having visited Marfa, Texas, to see the mysterious Marfa Lights, Big Bend National Park, and several boat cruises to Florida, Cancun, and Cozumel. Dora never lost her ability to charm anyone she met. She always greeted a stranger or old friend with a bubbly smile, a warm touch and an “I love you.” Her kind heart, loving eyes and beautiful smile will be deeply missed.

Dora’s family would like to acknowledge the incredible staff at The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research (TIRR Memorial Hermann), at Houston and The Woodlands, Texas. Their kindness and support to Dora’s recovery and rehabilitation in 1999 and 2018 will never be forgotten.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 17, at Compean Funeral Home, 2102 Broadway Blvd., Houston, Texas 77012, viewing from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Rosary at 12:30 p.m. Reception to follow at American Legion Hall Post 521, 2221 Preston Rd, Pasadena, Texas 77503.
