Dorothy Marie Olmos

1958 - 2017

Dorothy Marie Olmos, a life-long resident of Houston’s East End, was born on December 31, 1958 to A.B. and Amalia Olmos and was called up to be with her Lord and Savior on August 30, 2017 surrounded by her loving family.  Dorothy is the second eldest daughter of the Olmos family. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents Amalia and Adalberto Olmos and survived by her eldest sister Diane Olmos Guzman and two younger sisters Jacqueline Renee Lopez and Bernadette Olmos Santiago.

First and foremost, Dorothy provided an unyielding love full of strength and vigor to her Sons Abel Brian Salazar & wife Sonia, Mario Adalberto Salazar & wife Gloria Martinez, Oscar Ray Renteria & wife Natalie, and Daughter Desirae Renee Renteria & Husband Juan Pablo Gutierrez. Her children reciprocated with explicit love for their mother who united their families behind Dorothy. Her grandchildren, Renee Martinez, Mario Salazar, Jr., Marlena Salazar, Amadeus Martinez, Gianna Salazar, Mia Salazar, Sara Salazar, Mary Renteria, Baby A. Bryan Salazar, and Devvani Gutierrez: and  her great-grandchildren, Mario Jacob Salazar and Jaisa Milan Salazar shared their young lives with their “Memo”, which provide Dorothy with great joy.

Often visible in the Magnolia Park Community, Dorothy extended her love and goodwill to the neighborhood she grew up in. There are too many civic efforts that Dorothy was involved in... because she just could not say “No.” Beginning with her grade school years at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School, Dorothy sang in the choir to praise the Lord. She continued her primary education at Edison Middle School. While at Edison, Dorothy played trumpet with the Edison Rangers Marching Band and became a Senior Varsity Cheerleader. Dorothy graduated in 1976 from Stephen F. Austin High School and pursued a Cosmetologist career, while raising her family. Afterwards, Dorothy attended the University of Houston and graduated in 1997 with a double major Bachelor of Arts in the Fine Arts and Bachelor of Science in Occupational Technology Industrial Studies, which paved a career path into the Fine Arts, Entertainment and Business.  Dorothy knew and influenced many people and proved to be a strong role model for her family and friends.  Dorothy will be greatly missed by all whole shared wonderful memories with her.
