Gilbert Gamez, Jr., 75, was born on October 11, 1948 in Saginaw, Michigan to Gilbert Gamez and Olga Bustamante. He entered into eternal rest on July 18, 2024 in Houston, Texas. He grew up in 2nd Ward, Magnolia, where he was raised by his grandmother Concepcion Muniz Bustamante.
Gilbert voluntarily enlisted into the United States Marine Corp, serving from October 5, 1967 to April 23, 1969. He served honorably and fought valiantly in the Vietnam War, earning PVT. 1st Class, 2nd Battalion "The Professionals" 211 1st Marine!
He met and married Mary Lou Zamora, they had one beloved child Anjanette. Gilbert was a character, who loved talking for hours. Some of his loves included BBQing (especially his signature fajitas and chicken) loved photography and videography, loved his black (with sugar) coffee with toast and jelly in the mornings. He was a handy man at heart and could build or fix just about anything, always had the newest technology available.
He loved salt water fishing and hunting as well. An avid hunter who hunted at Bud Evans Ranch in the Rock Springs, Texas for many years. During his hunting lease he was also known as Geebo. He loved going to the Texas Trophy Hunters Show, he was a licensed gun dealer who enjoyed making his own bullets. He loved traveling to Las Vegas and was a huge Game of Thrones fan. Attending Rodeo cookoffs was one of his favorite things to do as well.
Gilbert also known as Cisco Kid worked 26 years with UPS (October 7, 1971 to August 22, 1998). He joined the Police Academy in 1982, worked Precinct 6 from 1983 to 1984, then Harris County Sheriffs Department from 1985 to 2010, as a reserve. During this time he was a Sergeant as a Crime Prevention Specialist, he was in charge of fingerprinting public school children to protect their safety in case anyone went missing.
He was dedicated to charitable work, including his involvement with the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon. Some of his favorites were cologne (red), beverages: limonada, Jack Daniels single barrel with coke and a splash of lime.
Gilbert leaves behind in death his beloved daughter, Anjanette Gamez Cuevas and husband George Cuevas, and will be deeply missed by all who shared cherished memories with him.
