Gloria Ann Florez

Gloria Ann (Jimenez) Florez, 76, went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 30th, 2024.   She is preceded in death by her parents Reynaldo & Esperanza Jimenez, husband Fermin Florez Jr., brother Reynaldo Jimenez Jr. and grandson Maximillian Moreno. She is survived by her sisters Yolanda and husband Richard Villegas, Sylvia Rodriguez, Rebecca Tutor and brother Gilbert Jimenez and wife Georgia; daughters Venessa and husband Art Aleman, Maria and husband Michael Basaldua, Gracie Florez, Herminia and husband Albert Tangarife; grandchildren Gabriel and wife Celina, Aaron & Ashley Aleman, John Basaldua, Jase Florida, Abigale & Gabriella Chavez and Dolcey Tangarife; great-grandchildren Cody & Gianna Aleman and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gloria was born on October 23rd, 1947 and spent her early childhood here in Houston where her parents met and married.  She grew up with her family traveling across the country as migrant workers until the family settled for good in a tiny town in the panhandle: Tulia, Texas.  Gloria had several early jobs before earning her cosmetology license and becoming a beautician. She met Fermin and they married in the summer of 1971. For 20 years she was a devoted military wife and they were stationed all over the country and abroad. Everywhere they lived she made lots of friends with her bubbly and outgoing personality. She opened her heart and home to many servicemen and their families who were also missing their hometowns.  She was an amazing cook and learned how to make authentic dishes taught to her by the friends that she made over the years. Gloria eventually came back to the Houston area in the 90’s to help raise her growing family. She worked at several local salons and made many lifelong friends.

Gloria loved to cook and dance (sometimes both at the same time), play board games or just simply snuggle under a blanket and watch her favorite movies or tv shows. She also enjoyed rooting for her favorite teams and would yell at the tv if they were losing. You would get a huge smile from her if you took her to the casino, shopping or to one of her favorite restaurants. She attended as many school programs, sports games, competitions, concerts & recitals as she could to cheer on and support her family. Most of all she loved to be surrounded by her family for every holiday and birthday. She gave selflessly and loved unconditionally.

We will all miss her dearly and will do our best to continue on with her loving legacy: love God and your family.  A Memorial Service is planned for Saturday, March 9th from 3-7pm at Compean Funeral Home, 2102 Broadway St., Houston, TX 77012. We invite anyone willing to further honor her by wearing her favorite color red or leopard pattern.
