Helena Valencia Pareja, age 84, made her transition at home in Houston, Texas, Friday, May 31, 2024, surrounded by her family, loved ones, and members of the community after a year of battling gastric cancer. Born on May 26, 1940, in Medellín, Colombia, to Angela Consuelo Flores and Gabriel Valencia, her humble youth was marked by notable adversities that she overcame with a tenacious commitment and pursuit of education. From the very beginning, she demonstrated her remarkable capacity for learning, distinguishing herself as an outlier of excellence. After graduating Magna Cum Laude from CEFA, she stayed on staff to teach while she attended the University of Antioquia. While a professor at the University, she married Juan Francisco Pareja, and they immigrated to NYC where they welcomed two sons, Carlos Gerardo and Jose Manuel. They eventually landed in Houston, Texas where their third son, Juan Gabriel was born. She continued her career in education, teaching English and Spanish at various colleges, middle and high schools, earning accolades while enriching the lives of countless students along the way. Her greatest joy however, was teaching the Word of God. She taught the Bible Class for Adults at her beloved St. Jerome’s community for more than 40 years, led numerous ministries and missions, and also hosted a national weekly radio program on Radio Maria. Helena was predeceased by her husband, Juan Francisco, her brother, Gabriel Jairo, and her mother Consuelo. She is survived by her son Carlos Gerardo and his spouse Amber, her son Jose Manuel, her son Juan Gabriel and his spouse Morgan. She is also survived by her grandchildren Diego, Paloma, Pablo, Gabriel, and David, as well as her sister, Lucía, and her spouse Manuel Rodriguez, nephew, Manny Rodriguez, niece, Veronica Evetts, her cousins Marta and Dalia Gomez; she is furthermore survived by her niece, Natalia Jiménez, and her spouse, Hass Fogle, her nephew, Mateo Jiménez, his spouse Jahan, and other beloved family members both here in the United States and Colombia.

Helena Valencia Pareja, de 84 años, hizo su transición en su casa en Houston, Texas, el viernes 31 de mayo de 2024, rodeada de su familia, seres queridos, y miembros de la comunidad, después de un año de luchar contra cáncer gástrico. Nacida el 26 de mayo de 1940 en Medellín, Colombia, hija de Ángela Consuelo Flores y Gabriel Valencia, su humilde juventud estuvo marcada por notables adversidades que superó con un tenaz compromiso y búsqueda de la educación. Desde el principio demostró su notable capacidad de aprendizaje, sobresaliendo por su excelencia. Después de graduarse Magna Cum Laude del CEFA, fue invitada a ser profesora de inglés mientras cursaba sus estudios superiores en la Universidad de Antioquia.Mientras enseñando en la universidad, se casó con Juan Francisco Pareja, y emigraron a Nueva York donde nacieron 2 hijos, Carlos Gerardo y Jose Manuel. Eventualmente se dirigieron a Houston, Texas donde nació su tercer hijo, Juan Gabriel. Ella continuó su carrera en educación, enseñando inglés y español en varias universidades, escuelas intermedias y secundarias, obteniendo reconocimientos mientras enriquecía las vidas de innumerables estudiantes a lo largo del camino. Pero su mayor gozo fue enseñar la Palabra de Dios, liderando la Clase de Biblia para Adultos en su querida comunidad de San Jerónimo por más de 40 años, participando en numerosos ministerios y misiones, y también con su programa radial semanal a nivel nacional en Radio María. Le sobreviven su hijo Carlos Gerardo y su esposa Amber, su hijo José Manuel, su hijo Juan Gabriel y su esposa Morgan. También le sobreviven sus nietos Diego, Paloma, Pablo, Gabriel y David; su hermana Lucía y su esposo Manuel Rodríguez, su sobrino Manny Rodríguez, su sobrina Verónica Evetts, sus primas Marta y Dalia Game; tambien le sobreviven su sobrina Natalia Jiménez y su esposo Haas Fogle, su sobrino Mateo Jiménez y su esposa Jahan, y otros familiares amados aquí en E.E.U.U. y en Colombia.
