Isabel "Jack" Cantu

November 19, 1927 – June 27, 2018

Isabel “Jack” Cantu was called home on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at the blessed age of 90.  He was born November 19, 1927 to the late Abundio and Delfina Cantu in New Willard, TX.  He is preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Lela Cantu, and siblings, Frances Cantu Soliz, Edward Cantu, Lupe Cantu and Josephine Cantu Damian.

Jack proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.  He traveled the world.  Such experience lead to many stories.  Like the one about how he hated onions but learned to love them after a ship ride to Japan on only onion soup.  We honestly believe those were the best years of his life. After serving his country Jack later found several passions.  One was his career in offset printing, which he passed on to his daughter Brenda.  Jack had a strong work ethic.  He never missed work, not even when he was sick, was always on time and never took off for vacation. He retired from Cargill Printing Company in 1989.  Jack also loved tending to his yard.  He had the most pristine yard on the block.  He had a special way he wanted his grass cut and no one could ever come close.  He loved sitting on his porch drinking McDonald’s coffee, waving to the neighborhood traffic, talking or gossiping with the neighbors, listening to the birds and watching the squirrels.

Jack is survived by his daughters, Irma Cantu (Jerry Tobar), Brenda Cantu, Laura Cantu Brent (Ronald) and Sonya Cantu; son, Richard Cantu (Jessica) and special grandson, Mark Tobar.  He was known as Dad to his 4 grandchildren and grandpa to his other 6 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.  He is also survived by his 2 sisters, Reynalda Carmona and Mary Gutierrez.  He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
