Josefina G. Montemayor

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Josefina Montemayor Gutierrez on May 12, 2024, in Houston, TX. Josefina was born on June 18, 1935, in Doctor Gonzalez, Nuevo Leon, MX to Jose Juan and Amalia Gutierrez. When she was 21, Josefina married the love of her life, Emerico Montemayor De Leon. She was the doting mother of their nine children. Over the course of 67 years, Josefina and Emerico built and raised a beautiful family together. Josefina’s family will forever cherish her memory for her kindness, resilience, and infectious humor that brightened the darkest of days. Her frank advice was always what we needed to hear and was always followed up with a hug that made all worries disappear.

She was often called “Fina” a name she lived up to when she was crowned as a beauty queen in her hometown of Dr. Gonzalez, N.L. She found joy in sewing and was a skilled cook even though her recipes were always a pinch of this and a handful of that. She hosted lovely Sunday afternoons when the family would gather for visits and laughter, relished in her trips to her hometown, and always made time for a casino or two.

She was simply wonderful, making time to connect with everyone she loved by offering her support, wisdom, hugs, and abundant love. Josefina was preceded in death by parents Juan Jose and Amalia Gutierrez, and siblings Elias, Jose Juan, Salome, Elfego, Jose Luis, and Maria Elena.

She is survived by her husband Emerico Montemayor De Leon, five sons: Juan Ramon (Minerva), Emerico Jr (Clara), Oziel, Javier (Araceli), Omar (Karen), four daughters: Amalia Padilla (Gerardo) Maria Elena Barrera (Juan Pablo), Olga Dana (Arturo) and Diana Montemayor. Grandchildren: Monica, Melissa, Jessica, Mayra, Victor, Clarissa, Estefania, Gerardo Jr, Gisel, Juan Pablo Jr, Jorge, Emily, Elyssa, Evelyn, Nathan M, Omar Jr, Joaquin, Miranda, Step: Andrew and Roman. Great Grandchildren: Madison, Abigail, Alejandra, Sebastian, Marcela, Mateo, Katalia, Johnny Jr, Gabriella, Nathan P, Camila, Renata, Andrew Siblings: Raymundo Gutierrez (Monterrey, N.L.) Francisca Martinez (Los Angeles, CA) Amalia Garza (Houston, TX) and their spouses, as well as many nephews and nieces, all of whom she loved and whose lives she touched deeply.

Though Josefina may have left this world physically, her legacy lives on through the many generations of lives she touched with her kindness and wisdom.

Sus bisnietos: Madison, Abigail, Alejandra, Sebastian, Marcela, Mateo, Katalia, Johnny Jr, Gabriella, Nathan P, Camila, Renata, Andrew, hermanos: Raymundo Gutiérrez (Monterrey, N.L.)
