Laura "Abby" Abigail Ortiz is the oldest and only daughter of Laura Canales Ortiz & Jose David Ortiz. She was born on March 4, 1995. Abby was a loving daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin and friend. At the age of 3, on Memorial Day weekend May 30, 1998, the family was involved in a hit and run accident with a drunk driver, which left her severely injured. Laura was able to conquer the many obstacles she faced due to the spinal cord injury. She was cared for by her parents, two younger brothers, JD and Carlos Ortiz, grandparents, aunts, and uncles. Despite her limitations Abby lived a full life and made the best of every moment she had. She was caring, understanding, and also a great listener. Abby was an inspiration to every one that knew her. She is the true meaning of a warrior. She was a fighter and never gave up. Abby overcame a number of illnesses. She was a survivor. After graduating high school in 2013, she continued her passion of education and went on to earn her bachelors degree in psychology in December of 2018. With the support of her family she lived a full life enjoying time with her family, traveling, spending time with her service dog Olsen, and tutoring and teaching students online. Sadly on October 22, 2023 Abby passed away. She fought a good fight. She leaves behind to cherish and treasure her memories her loving parents, Jose David Ortiz & Laura C. Ortiz; her service dog, Olsen & Oliver "Chiquis"; her brothers, Jose "J.D." Ortiz, Jr. & girlfriend Paige Almaraz, Carlos Daniel Ortiz; her maternal grandparents, Jose Raul & Emma Canales; her maternal uncles and aunts, Artemio & Elizabeth Canales, John Gabriel & Leticia Sifuentes, Arnold & Lourdes Salazar, Julio & Emma Mata; her paternal uncles, Jose Alberto Ramirez, Manuel Nava, Jr.; numerous cousins; She is also survived by many other relatives and a host of good friends. Abby will be dearly missed by all those who shared wonderful memories with her.
