12/05/1944 - 03/17/2014 Lionel Alvarez Salas was took his first breath into existence on earth Dec. 5 1944, in Donna, TX., and was called back into the arms of our eternal Father on March 17, 2014 in Houston, TX. Born of humble beginnings, he accumulated a great wealth along his journey. He inherited a treasure of siblings, Gregorio Alvarez, Ignacio Alvarez, Santos Solis, Maria de Socorro Alvarez, Natalia Cantu, Faustina Cardenas, Ricardo Alvarez, Jose Alvarez, Guadalupe Alvarez, Roberto Alvarez, and Miguel Alavarez Jr., granted to him by his father Miguel Alvarez Sr. and his mother Maria del Refugio Alvarez Salas. With inmense honor he served proudly and honorably in the United States Air Force, standing by the country he loved, attaining the rank of SGT. His most valuable jewel came when he met and married his God-fearing, loving, and caring wife Cosolación Alvarez and shared his love for 45yrs. They built upon their love and faith with their children Paul Eric Alvarez, Rene Alvarez, Daryl Anthony Alvarez, and Nancy Gonzalez. His riches grew with the addition of his grandchildren and great grandchildren, Adriana Alexandria Alvarez, Stephen Eric Alvarez, Joseph Anthony Alvarez, Daniel David Alvarez, Sophia Corinne Alvarez, and Michael Anthony Alvarez. God then enhanced his life by giving his children beautiful and loving partners, Elizabeth Alvarez, Kimberly Alvarez, Marcos Gonzalez, and Alexis Bazan. He loved rooting for the Dallas Cowboys. He was captivated by the gun slinging shootouts of a good Western. He absorbed foreign films and loved to recount them to whoever would listen. He enjoyed a plethora of music ranging from oldies but goodies to Mexican corridos. His claim to fame and weekend hobby was cooking up a mean chicken on the grill. Above all he enjoyed family. A man of his word that spoke mountains with his actions. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 20, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at Compean Funeral Home Main Chapel with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. & Friday, March 21, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at Compean Funeral Home Main Chapel with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
