Maria Guadalupe Garza Lopez
"Lupita"
1952 - 2017
Maria Guadalupe Garza Lopez (Lupita) passed away peacefully surrounded by her family August 24, 2017. She was 65 years old.
Lupita was born March 30, 1952 in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to Angela Mendez de Lopez and Amado Lopez Solis. As an only child, she was raised in Nuevo Camargo (Villanueva), Tamauilpas, Mexico. She married into the large Garza family from Los Fresnos, Tamauilpas, Mexico, becoming wife to Arnulfo Garza, one of eleven siblings. Lupita and Arnulfo moved to Houston in 1975 where they raised their three children and where Lupita worked for HISD at the Carrillo Elementary School for more than 22 years before retiring in 2012.
Lupita is survived by her husband, Arnulfo and three children: Maria Guadalupe Garza De Leon and husband Jose Raul; Arnulfo Garza Jr. and wife, Roxana; and Leticia Garza Gutierrez and husband Robert. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Jose Raul De Leon Jr., Aaron De Leon, Jazzmine Garza, Claritza Garza, Nalleli Garza, Ayden Garza, Amado Noah Garza, Nadia C. Gutierrez, Ava L. Lupita was the matriarch of a loving and devoted family that will forever cherish her memory. She had a passion for taking care of everyone, especially her husband, children and grandchildren. Lupita enjoyed dinner and movie dates with her daughters, and looked forward to daily visits from her son who lived nearby. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. Lupita had an inherent love of all music and dancing, enjoyed lasting moments with family and friends, and never missed an opportunity to cook for her loved ones. She was known for showing hospitality, hosting all family gatherings and making one of a kind, delicious, homemade meals.
In addition to her family, Lupita loved to be with people and a large part of her life was serving others. As a faithful devoted Catholic, Lupita will be remembered as a bright, shining light in the church she served, Resurrection Catholic Church. Lupita was involved in many church activities and spent many evenings with her friends from the congregation whether it was Bible Study “Grupo de Oracion”, cleaning the church, reading at mass, or singing in the church choir.
Lupita’s children, Lupita chiquita, Arnulfo, Jr. and Lety remember their mother as a strong, passionate figure of strength who never waned in her support or love of her family. Throughout their lives, Lupita instilled her values of family, hard work, and commitment to the Lord. She has also blessed another generation as “Guela”, spending time with her grandchildren, and caring for her granddaughters daily after school. Lupita was the most wonderful and devoted grandmother anyone could wish for. She will be greatly missed.
