Maria Sanchez Moncivais

Maria Sanchez Moncivais, 83, was born on January 14, 1942, in Alamo, Texas, and peacefully passed away on January 25, 2025, in Houston, Texas, to be with her Lord and Savior. Maria was a proud graduate of Texas Southern University. Following her graduation, she worked for the Houston Independent School District (HISD) at Port Houston and Pugh Elementary Schools as a Teacher Aid and Parents Facilitator teaching ESL (English as a Second Language) for five years (1975-1981). She then dedicated 26 years of her career to the Houston Training Schools, where she served as an Instructor and Director of Education from July 11, 1989, to May 29, 2015. In her free time, Maria was an avid volunteer, spending 13 years (2007–2020) at the Villa de Mantel Convent. She was also a devoted member of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC).

Maria was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Leonardo Moncivais; her daughter, Leticia Moncivais; her father, Juan Sanchez; her mother, Julia Cantu and husband Jose de los Reyes; and her cherished grandson, Adolfo "Nene" Moncivais, Jr. Her legacy of love continues through her sons: Adolfo Moncivais and his wife Leticia Hernandez; Leonardo Moncivais and his wife, Elizabeth; and Juan Jose "Johnny" Moncivais and his wife, Jamie. She also leaves behind a family of grandchildren who adored her: Patsy and Herbert Lizama, Lisa and Mario Villasenor, Robert Ybarra, Angelica and Labeb Ghani, Stephanie Moncivais, Roy and Angelica Barbe, Leonard and Faith Moncivais, Juliet Mendoza, Chay Moncivais, and Joe and Genises Mendoza. Maria was also the proud matriarch of 25 great-grandchildren, each of whom will carry her memory in their hearts.

Maria’s life was a testament to her boundless warmth, kindness, and unwavering faith. She touched the lives of all who knew her, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts. Though her presence will be deeply missed, her spirit will forever guide and inspire those she loved.
