Nehemias, “Mike” Vasquez, of Houston, Texas, died on October 23, 2016 at the age of 52. He was born on June 16, 1964 in Reynosa, Mexico. He attended Southmayd Elementary, Deady Middle School, Milby High School and Houston Baptist University. In 1985, he married Martha Aranda and together they had 2 children, Michelle and Leesah Vasquez. His second marriage was to Elodia Villarreal in 2009 and gained 4 other children, Lori, Sergio, Christopher and Jennifer.
Mike was an entrepreneur, businessman, musician who served at various Houston area churches including Nueva Vida, Templo Jerusalem, Capilla de la Fe, Nueva Vida, Praise and Worship International, Poder en Cristo, Cosecha Final, El Calvario, Christian Tabernacle, Faith Assembly. He dedicated himself to serving God through the music ministry and his family.
A unique soul, Mike was very playful, an extrovert, and there was never a dull moment when he was around. His unique sense of humor had everyone on their toes. He loved to travel and go fishing but music was his lifelong passion. He toured the United States and Mexico with many Christian bands including: Paraiso, Los Amigos, Grupo Amor, New Testament and Los Unidos. Mike will be greatly missed.
Mike is survived by his wife and children Elodia Villarreal-Vasquez, Michelle Vasquez, Soufiane Oumellou, Safir Oumellou, Leesah Vasquez, Lori Salazar and Jeremy Guiterrez, Sergio and Nancy Salazar, Alexander Ngoc Hoang, Christopher and Jennifer Salazar, Alexis Flores and Daniella Salazar, Jennifer Salazar and Ashley Avalos. Mike Vasquez was also surrounded by his loving family including his father, Atanacio Vasquez+, his mother Aracelia Vasquez, brother Nathaniel and his wife Amy Vasquez.
His remains will be laid to rest at various places including his favorite fishing spot, at the Galveston Pier and his favorite go to place under the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign.
Memorial donations may be made in Mike’s name to the National Kidney Foundation under “Team Mike”. Checks can be given to Ashley Avalos at the memorial services or mailed to the following address: National Kidney Foundation, 4801 Woodway Drive Suite 115 East Houston, Texas 77056.
Visitation will take place on Friday, October 28, 2016 from 5pm to 9pm with a Prayer Service at 7pm at The Compean Funeral Home Main Chapel. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 1pm at The Christian Tabernacle Church (13334 Wallisville Rd., Houston, TX 77049). Cremation will take place on a later date.
