Santiago Valdez Merlan was born on May 30, 1946 in Guerrero, Mexico to his parents, Anacleto Valdez & Emilia Merlan. Santiago was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on February 28, 2017 in Humble, Texas. Santiago is survived by his wife of 48 years, Elpidia Jaimes Betancourt; his sons, Saul Valdez & wife Dora Sosa, & Ivan Rafael Valdez; his daughters, Maria Vadlez Maldonado & husband Fortino, Maria del Rosario Barrera & husband Juan, Gabriela Valdez & husband Jaime Claudio, & Rosalia Valdez & husband Luis Berdeja; his brothers, Quintin Valdez, Jesus Valdez, Pablo Valdez, & Roberto Valdez; his grandchildren, Rosa, Saul, Portino, Robert, Rodolfo, Rey, Ryan, Christian, Juan Antonio, Santiago, Jaime Jafed, Aquetzalli, Luis Raul, Catherine, & Leonardo; and his great grandchildren, Eduardo, Jr., Emily, Anthony Rey, and Andres. Santiago will be dearly missed by all of those he shared life with.

Visitation will be held on Monday, March 6, 2017 from 5pm to 9pm with a Rosary being recited at 7pm at the Compean Funeral Home Main Chapel.Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at 12pm at The Compean Funeral Home Main Chapel.Rite of Committal will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
