Vernon P. Martin, passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2016, at his home surrounded by his wife of almost 66 years and son. He was born in Hall Summit, LA, and married his love, Ernestine C. Martin, on Dec. 24, 1950 in Coushatta, LA. They had only one child, Dennis.Vernon was a Navy veteran who served in the Korean War from 1952 to 1956. His skills as a steel worker allowed him to join the Navy Seabees of the United States Naval Construction Forces. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Ribbon. He then served in the Naval Reserves for the following seven years. In 1956 Vernon became a barber and worked in the Houston Montrose area for 47 years. His retirement in 2003 afforded him time to spend with family and friends.He is survived by wife, Ernestine, son, Dennis, cousin, Eva Scoggins and many friends and loved ones.A Celebration of Life, Open House will be held at his son’s home, 1541 Cortlandt St. on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M.
